Virtual Queues

How to get on the brand new rides
A great new option to ride the brand new attractions at Disney World is to join a virtual queue. This means rather than standing in a line for hours you are given a boarding group number and when your boarding group is called you can then enter the queue for that attraction.
Virtual queues open at 7am each day to all guests. If you miss this there is another chance to join the queue at 1pm. You will need a park pass for the park where the ride is located.
At present the virtual queues are for ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ at Epcot and ‘Tron Lightcycle Run’ at Magic Kingdom.
To join a virtual queue enter your ‘My Disney experience’ app and scroll to virtual queue. I suggest that you are up and on the app before 7am as places in the queue can fill up in 20seconds!!
If you miss the first window you can try again at 1pm as long as you are in the relevant park.
Once you click on Virtual Queue you will need to pick which park you would like, either ‘Magic Kingdom’ for ‘Tron Lightcycle Run’ or ‘Epcot’ for ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’.
Remember to have all your party linked in your ‘My Disney Experience’ app.
As you will see in the photos, the 7am virtual queue is full, and the boarding groups are currently being called. It shows that the next queue window opens at 1pm. Remember you have to be in the relevant park at 1pm to join the queue.
If you are able to join the virtual queue you will be given a boarding group number and an estimated wait time. Keep an eye on the app as some days the boarding groups can be called faster than originally estimated.
Make sure you have notifications turned ON for the ‘My Disney Experience’ app to be alerted when your boarding group is called. If you miss your window you may not be admitted on to the ride so keep an eye on the app.
If you miss out on a virtual queue you could always purchase an ‘Individual Lightning Lane’ which we talk about on our Genie+ page.
On our most recent trip we were able to get onto the virtual queue for ‘Tron’. We were in Magic Kingdom before 1pm to get into the 2nd virtual queue of the day. As you will see below our initial estimated wait was nearly 9 hours, but we were actually called to board after 6 hours 45 mins. Make sure you have those notifications turned on so that you don’t miss your return time.
The photos below show the process we went through when using the ‘My Disney Experience’ app.
1. Open the virtual queue page on the app and select Magic Kingdom. You then need to confirm your party.
2. Once your party is confirmed the page will look like this before the queue opens. Once at 1pm hit ‘refresh’
3. As soon as the queue opens at 1pm hit ‘join virtual queue’
4. We were successful and given a boarding group of 155 with an estimated wait of nearly 9 hours!
5. When our boarding group was called we received this notification and were told when our time slot would end.
